Let's Play Gensou Suikoden!; GS1 PART 21
Hm.
LAST TIME: ROCKS FALL, TED'S VILLAGE DIES. The introduction of a guy named Yuber! Viktor gets a sword! ... Viktor's sword is smarter than he is!
[BGM: Gathering of Warriors]
Back in the Warriors' Village, Zorak is gathered with people for something! But I don't care; there's a star I'm missing. So into the item shop I go...
: "Say Big Brother, got anything good? I can tell, you know. You have something that's very precious to me. The Window Rune. Please, can I have it? In return, I'll join the Liberation Army."
[gives the damn rune]
: "Thank you. With this, I can become a good stained glass window maker."
I can now change the borders of dialogue windows! Which is... kind of stupid, as these things go, but I think I want to change the colour of the dialogue windows.
Milich and Esmeralda sit at the same table in the castle. Talking to either of them sets the bgm to the Theme of Narcissism until something overwrites it, which is usually when you return to the main area of the castle (once you walk past the bridge).
: "Why Master ☆☆☆☆☆☆, are you here to get some fashion tips from me?" Sure!

Huh, my title tags for the OST disagree with Kasios. Should be Distant Hills over Distant Mountain, Mystic Forest over Mysterious Forest, Bride in Black over Passacaria, and Lost Days over Forgotten Days. Also looks like Kasios only lists area background music. Sticking with what I'm used to.

I'm bored; talking to random people in the castle.
: "My, my, it's Master ☆☆☆☆☆☆. May I offer you a cup of tea?" NIGAI NO WA IYA DA >E
: "I finally get to fight for justice!"
: "I, ah, I'd like to go home. I have to clean my house."
Oh, right, Ivanov does a mural! It's of the Japanese box art.
I haven't given him any paint yet, but it'll end up looking vaguely like
(that is official art right there I swear)
The US release has hilarious box art.

I'm not sure who any of those are supposed to be. Well, Barbarosa is vaguely recognisable, but er. Who is... everyone else...

: "I can't go. I'm still a novice, and I'm not allowed to go to war."
: "Oh, Commander ☆☆☆☆☆☆. You're back. How did it go? Have you found a way to defeat Neclord?"
: "You betcha. Take a look at this. Here, say hello."
: "Watch your tongue. Say hello to a human? YOU say hello."
: "A talking sword? Will this thing defeat the vampire?"
: "Of course. Vampires are nothing to me."
: "So he says."
: "They are very much alike, those two. Overconfident."
: "That's wonderful. We were just about to depart for Neclord's Castle. Look what that demon sent us."
: "Wedding... Invitation?? Whose?"
: "He and Tengaar's! If we don't hurry, Tengaar will be drained of blood."
Dude walks over. "Chief, we're ready to go."
: "Fine, let's go. Commander ☆☆☆☆☆☆, we'll be going ahead of you."
They walk by.
[BGM: Passacaria]

: "So here you are, Commander ☆☆☆☆☆☆. Let's go, men. Now is the time to show the power of the Warriors' Village!"

[BGM: Theme of Tension ~ Ensemble Version]
Neclord steps out.
: "My my, how rude of you to show up at a wedding with all those weapons."
: "Give me back my daughter, my Tengaar."
: "I'm afraid not. She's my beloved bride. When the sun sets, our wedding begins. ☆☆☆☆☆☆, you're the leader of the Liberation Army, correct? I'd like you to be my most honored guest tonight. If you don't make it to the top of the castle by sunset, Tengaar will be mine forever. Understood?" It's a trap.
He starts to walk off, then turns back.
: "This gate will not admit the uninvited."
: "Damn you!"
WARRIORS: "Do not make fools of us."
: "Stop!"
They try to go in. "Ahhhhhhhh!"
: "It appears that what Neclord says is true."
: "Master ☆☆☆☆☆☆, this is a trap. He knows you're our leader." I have a policy on traps.
: "But we have no choice but to go."
: "Commander ☆☆☆☆☆☆, I beg you. Please save my daughter from that filthy vampire. Please."
The group starts to walk up to the door.
: "W-wait a minute." [walks in.] "Master ☆☆☆☆☆☆, take me with you. I'll go too."
: "You can't go, Hix. You have not yet proven yourself as a warrior. An unproven warrior, one who does not yet carry a sword with a name, is not allowed to enter battle. That is the law of our village." Fuck your village.
[BGM: Main Theme ~ Ensemble Version]
: "It's true that I'm still a novice, and not yet strong. But still... I want to save Tengaar with my own hands. I promised her. Please let me keep my promise. Please, Master ☆☆☆☆☆☆."
THE TRUTH
: "You'll just be in the way."
: "Please, sir. Please. I beg you. Please. Please."
: "The answer is no. ☆☆☆☆☆☆ doesn't want to see you die." Oh, I don't like him enough for that.
: "You'll just be in the way."
: "I want to save Tengaar. I promised her. Please, Master ☆☆☆☆☆☆."
: "You'll just be in the way."
: "Master ☆☆☆☆☆☆, I beg of you too. Take him with you. I'll be responsible for him." Well, if it's you...
: "C-Cleo..."
: "All right, come along."
: "Th-thank you."
: "Hix. Come here."
: "Yes sir." He does.
: "I was waiting for such words from you. You are Hix of the Warriors' Village, son of Clift the Crusader. I hereby accept you as a true warrior, and grant permission to name your sword. May the birth of this new warrior be celebrated by all. There, Hix. You have now been designated a warrior. Your courage befits a true warrior. Go and save Tengaar."
: "Th-thank you, Sir Zorak."
: "You may now name your sword. Have you something in mind?"
: "Yes, I made that decision many years ago."
: "Let's go, Hix. Tengaar awaits you."
: "Yes, sir."
Kicking Meg out of my party as she's not very good in this game!
: "Master ☆☆☆☆☆☆, I beg you. Please save Tengaar." Well, let me out of here and I'll fix up Hix so that's not painful.
Gave Hix my flowing crystal. It'll make him more useful than he'd be otherwise. He's not actually that terrible, really; it just seems like he is.
There's a save point just inside the castle, which I am using in case I game over.

If you bribe that zombie over there, he either repeats the 'Even in the forest, not just at night, during your work, praise the King.' thing or just steals your money.
Look, it's the thing on the box art!
The sun is setting 8D
Even in the forest...
Not just at night...
During your work...
Praise the King. And it turns into a doorway.
Getting darker...
If you're walking down, the sun sets backwards. 8)
Classy.

[BGM: an organ remix of that one wedding march. You know exactly the one I mean, I think.]

[BGM: Theme of Tension ~ Impact Version]
: "You sure took your time."
Hix steps up.
: "Tengaar! I've come to save you!"
: "Hix. You've come. I'm so happy."
: "Now wait a minute. You speak as if I'm going to lose."
: [steps forward] "That's right, Neclord. You're going to die here. Damn you to hell, Neclord! You remember the village of Northwind?"
: "Hmmm, let me see. I've been around such a long time. Come to think of it, you do look somewhat familiar. Perhaps I've seen you at... what was that village? But Northwind doesn't ring a bell." That's because SuikoII calls it North Window. (It's ノースウィンドゥ. Northwind is right.)
Viktor steps forward and slowly draws his sword.

: "I'll make sure you never waste your breath again. Here we go, Star Dragon!"
: "One or two vampires like this one are easy work."

: "In the name of my sword Tengaar, I'll destroy you Neclord!"
His sword sparkles.
: "Hix!"
: "Goodness, how courageous. ☆☆☆☆☆☆, I'm going to have to take your rune and present it to Lady Windy." That was the most obvious plot development in the history of plot developments.
Neclord cannot take damage until Viktor hits him! Have everyone else defend, because Viktor is way slow. When he hits him, there's a glowing sphere around them and a sound effect similar but not identical to the standard Soul Eater sounds.
Neclord appears to be pretty resistant to magic. :'( Also he's good enough at dodging that Viktor usually won't hit beyond the one required hit. Neclord's got a lot of target-all spells, though he can also turn into a bat and usually poison someone.
Aw, sweet! I beat him without game overing! That's unusual. Everyone grew to level 47.
Neclord's cringing.
[BGM: ... still Theme of Tension ~ Impact Version.]
: "Y-your sword..."
: "I am the Night Rune transformed. You are merely a servant of the darkness, and therefore fight me in vain." Sup, Night Rune! Heard about what happened in Falena lately? Yeah, that's YOUR fault, you asshole. BE ASHAMED. ... ... ... TRY TO FIGURE OUT WHAT 'ASHAMED' MEANS FIRST. I'LL WAIT.
: "I have lived for 500 years. Damned if my life ends now." Trivia: the calendar year at this point is prooooobably Solar Year 458. I do like fantasy worlds where things happened before the current calendar was established.
: "500 years of evil deeds. This is where my journey ends. You killed my family and friends, and I traveled far looking for you. Now it's time for revenge!"
Viktor draws his sword again and lunges. Neclord flashes for a bit, then disappears.
[BGM: Main Theme ~ Ensemble Version]
: "Hix!"
: "Tengaar!"
Tengaar and Hix run over to each other!
: "You've come to save me. Thank you. I'm so happy."
: "B-b-but I haven't done anything. And Viktor defeated Neclord."
: "You're so funny. It's OK. You're still my hero." :3
: "Th-thanks."
: "By the way, the name of your sword..." Heeeeee's in trouble.
: "Oh, this? Sorry. I should have asked for your permission."
: "Really, using my name without asking..."
: "S-sorry."
: "Why do you apologize?" :D
: "Huh?"
: "You've got plenty of headaches ahead of you, Hix." Cleo likes a good happy ending.
: [walks over to ☆☆☆☆☆☆] "Let's get back, ☆☆☆☆☆☆. My journey has ended, but not yours."
Ooooh, we don't teleport down! 8D [BGM: Passacaria]
If you squint, you can probably see a treasure chest right in that circle. It's got a rage crystal in it. Rage is upgraded fire.
And now we get to watch the sun un-set!
I love this game.

: "Just for a moment."

What the hell are you doing, Tir.
[BGM: Main Theme ~ Ensemble Version]

: "Sure. Thanks to Hix."
: "I am very grateful, Master ☆☆☆☆☆☆. We of the Warrior's Village hereby swear to serve the Liberation Army and obey your commands. Please let us know if you need our help." The moving apostrophe's not my fault, btw.
: "Neclord is defeated, and the Warriors' Village has joined our cause. Master ☆☆☆☆☆☆, it's about time we returned to Penis Castle."
: "☆☆☆☆☆☆, I mean Master ☆☆☆☆☆☆. I tracked Neclord for many years, and I finally got my revenge. I must go to my village now and deliver the news. But I promise to return to the Liberation Army. So please permit me to leave for the time being." Viktor, stop being polite: it's distressing.

: "All right. Come back soon." And don't get arrested at the border or anything.
: "Without you, Viktor, the Liberation Army is under a huge handicap." Trufax: I don't have any Viktor-like characters raised up.
: "I know. You're all hopeless without me."
: "Don't worry. I'll fill in for him."
: [bounces] "W-what! W-wait a minute, Tengaar."
: "No, Hix. I've already made up my mind. Besides, you're coming too."
: "M-me too?"
: "Of course. If you don't protect me, who will?" Her stats are much better than his 8) She's got the magic stats of Luc and the offensive stats of someone not terrible at attacking. AND she has a long-ranged Laser Knife.
: "Sure, b-but..."
: "Go with her, Hix. Your initiation is over with, but not your Rite of Passage into Adulthood. Besides, Tengaar has made up her mind, and I can't stop her. Will you protect her?"
: "Yes, sir."
Tengaar joins (the army)!
: "I'm going now, ☆☆☆☆☆☆. But I'll be back. Take care." He walks away until he's clear of the group, then runs.
Viktor leaves party!
Tengaar joins party!
A master musician.
